The Last Bits of October

The last week of October was filled with lots of merry, festive activities for the Goodwin family; so many, in fact, that I nearly forgot to tell you about them!

* Halloween Fest with Jon & Aubri: Dave's brother & wife came over, toting pumpkins ripe for carving, fresh pumpkin pie and a few scary movies. We had a fun night hanging out with them, creating spooky pumpkins and becoming equally creeped out and amused by the movie, "Insidious".

* Ward Halloween party: Due to scheduling issues, we got our Trunk R' Treat on at Willis Tucker Park. After decorating our trunk very spooky-like, we left my dad to man the candy cauldron while we dashed from car to car. It was a cold night and we had a huge turnout, but we managed to make our rounds (guessing 60 cars participated) in less than 20 minutes. Favorite thing? One of the ladies said Benjamin's "thank you" was the first one she'd heard all night.

* Fall Foliage: the leaves right outside our windows suddenly lit up with vibrant colors in the last couple weeks of the month. I snapped a few pictures, but it didn't really do justice to the brilliance of those golden yellow and fire-engine red leaves. It was so peaceful to be able to gaze at them while we ate our meals each day.

* We've been Boo-ed: someone in the ward started the Boo treats. Once you were Boo-ed, you were to hang the sign on your door (so that it wouldn't be repeated) and you were to make treats and Boo two other families. The hope was to cover as many doors in the month of October, as possible.

* Halloween Day/Night: because the holiday fell on a Monday, one of my workdays, it was a very busy, packed day. Most surprisingly thing - I saw hardly anyone dressed up at work, which I thought was weird... although I wasn't either. Dave picked me up at the bus stop and we arrived home late, grabbed some food, doled out a few pieces of candy to early trick-r-treaters, then headed out in the Halloween night. It was super cold but our little monkey stayed warm, even sweaty in his very toasty costume. However, Benjamin's interest was waning, so we only hit about 10 houses in our neighborhood before coming home, dumping his candy in our cauldron and then doing his usual nighttime rituals before heading off to swift, sweet slumber.
