So we got The Call. It was inevitable, really.
Last night, one of the counselors in the bishopric left a message on our phone. Dave called him back and Bro. Redd asked us The Question; after moving in 6 weeks ago, he asked us to speak in church. The date is two weeks from yesterday - or the day after Christmas.
And our topic? How to bring/remember Christ in our homes during the Christmas season. Awesome, huh? I have a few things that we do in our home, but I was curious: does anyone have some great ideas you do to remember the REAL reason for the season?
If so, send them my way. Not only will I implement them in my talk, but we'll try to incorporate some over the next few weeks... and I will share the exciting results of our uplifting experiences. I know, you can hardly contain your enthusiasm, but it will be a great project - I promise, and I can't wait.
Oh, and before I forget - thanks!

That's the exact Sunday we had to speak on last year! Todd was disappointed because he knew a lot of people would be out of town and miss our talks. Ummmm...isn't that a good thing?!
I don't know if I have great advice to share - other than that it's important to focus on the Savior since little kids especially can't wrap their minds around anything but their OWN presents they'll be receiving. We've had to explain over and over that this is Jesus' birthday and the reason we give and receive gifts.
When I was younger my family would act out the nativity story. My Dad would read from Luke 2 and us kids would put on random dress up clothes we had. Now that I have a family of my own and no where near enough members to do anything theatrical, we just read a simple story book about Christ's birth. With young children, I've found starting out simple works best. I learned that with my primary calling.
Jeremy and his family just took presents to a needy family.
David and Rachel's boys are filling a manger with hay for the baby Jesus. Everytime they do a kind thing for someone else they get to put a piece of straw in the manger. They can't wait to see how full the manger will be on Christmas Eve.
I guess your new ward is good at the welcoming :-) we sure miss you guys!
